6-Day Desert Tour from Tangier to Merzouga

Bid farewell to Chefchaouen and set out towards the heart of Morocco. Your journey takes you through the dramatic landscapes of the Rif and Middle Atlas Mountains.

Along the way, you'll encounter Ifrane, a town often referred to as "Little Switzerland" due to its European-style architecture and pristine streets. Take a leisurely stroll through its charming neighborhoods, breathing in the crisp mountain air before continuing to Midelt, where you'll rest for the night.

We will travel through the northern Atlas mountains traveling along the Ziz River Valley where we will take frequent stops to observe the picturesque view of mountains, valleys, river scenes, Ziz gorge, oasis, and large reservoir.

We will pass through the town or Er Rachidia as we head east to the Sahara Desert town of Merzouga. We will spend the night in a hotel with the Great Erg Chebbi Dunes just out the back door of the hotel where you can venture on foot to explore the smaller
dunes.

Today we put our 4 x 4 vehicle to work. We will travel into the Sahara desert a unique environment full of unusual attractions and the simple nomadic Berber people. 

We will visit the home of some Berber nomads and learn about their culture. Near lunchtime, we will enter Rissani where we will have a short visit to the market of Sijilmassa. We will lunch in a local restaurant offering Madfouna (PIZZA) with Berber wine. After lunch, it is time to get back to Merzouga to greet our camels who are waiting to take us on another adventure in the sand dunes.

This will be a much slower travel into the dunes to spend the night in a bivouac (tent) fully equipped for the night spent in the heart of the Sahara. Trek to the top of the nearest dune to watch the sunset and enjoy the traditional meal served by the Berber guides and their music.

Awake before dawn to witness the Sahara's most magical moment—a mesmerizing sunrise over the sand dunes. The colors of the desert shift with the first light, painting the landscape in warm, fiery hues. After breakfast, bid farewell to the desert and make your way back to Fes.

Along the route, you'll retrace your steps through Ifrane, offering a fresh perspective on this charming town. Arriving in Fes, the ancient and culturally rich city, you'll have the evening to immerse yourself in its history and grandeur.

Your final day begins in Fes, where you can explore the intricate streets of the Medina, visit historic madrasas and mosques, and perhaps indulge in some last-minute souvenir shopping. As the sun sets, it's time to bid farewell to this captivating city and embark on the journey back to Tangier. Reflect on the memories and experiences that have filled the past six days, knowing that Morocco's enchantment will linger long after you've returned home.
